Letter to David Gelston (1744-1828), Collector of the Port of New York (1801-1820), from John R. Livingston, February 1805. [David Gelston was a native of Bridgehampton, the son of Maltby Gelston, who was chairman of the Committee of Safety of Suffolk. David Gelston was sent by his father, to Governor Trumbull of Connecticut to ask for a part of the Connecticut Militia to defend Long Island. He also was a member of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th provincial congresses, and was one of the petitioners for a wharf at Sag harbor.]
