Description
Caption on back of photograph reads: This is another interesting facial study of the most famous Shinnecock Indian of all time. Notice the lines of age setting in around the mouth. His likeness has been compared to that of George Washington, a fact that members of his family take great pride in. His name Wickham comes from the Shinnecock word wikham, meaning house. He was one of the finest craftsmen in the tribe and produced many fine scrub brushes and baskets which, are now in the possession of many old families in Southampton and other towns on the Eastern End of Long Island.
