Incomplete account kept aboard the ship Washington III, on a voyage from Sag Harbor to the North Pacific Ocean, 2 September 1853 - 10 July 1855 (wrecked on ice in the Sea of Okhotsk, ship driven up on shore; everything salvaged, sold at public auction); dates contained in this journal are 23 December 1854 - 10 July 1855); owned by Huntting Cooper, commanded by Captain Sylvanus Brown. Used later (at various times) by the White family of Water Mill, L.I. as a journal and account book of home and farm chores, veterinary services, etc.; first entries date to 1885, with accounts for services rendered to horses; later, in 1908, used by Henry M. White as a weather, chore and farming diary; 1921 entries for bass fishing, including amount caught and buyers.
