Pp.'s 55-83: incomplete account kept aboard the whaling (?_see end of this note field) ship Beaver, on a voyage from New York, N.Y. to Canton (Whampoa, China), 15 May 1824 - 12 September 1824 (weighed anchor at Whampoa, China), commanded by Frederick W. DePoister, Captain; on last page (81), picks up again with summary entry on 31 January 1825 ("left Whampoa, bound for New York, doubled Cape of Good Hope"); final entry remarks that "on 24 December 1824, the ship Royal George of London caught fire....blew up, a great many Chinamen killed by explosion." Pages 83-84 blank (mislabeled, should be 82-83). Cataloger's note: this ship/voyage isn't mentioned in either Starbucks or Lunds works; presumably Mercator Cooper was either onboard or owner of ship, as it's recorded in his journal, along with the 3 other whaling accounts; however, home port of New York, N.Y. is unusual (not Sag Harbor or Cold Spring Harbor). Coordinates not recorded on this voyage. Inserted notes (possibly by Pennypacker) state this was not a whaling ship, hence the lack of entry into the above mentioned books.
