Description

This is a diplomatic purse used by John Howard Payne during his time as Ambassador to Tunis. This purse enclosed his letter of introduction for his Consul appointment to Tunis. Payne served as Ambassador from 1841-1844 and 1851-1852. Accompanying the purse is an object description card, which was probably used for a display or exhibit at Home Sweet Home Museum or a similar site.
