Description

John Howard Payne died in Tunis during his service as a diplomat. In 1883, philanthropist W. W. Corcoran of Washington, D.C. paid to have Payne's body exhumed, returned to the United States, and reinterred in his cemetery, Oak Hill, near Georgetown in Washington. This ticket for the reinterment belonged to Jonathan Baker. A program from the event, along with a "lady's ticket" for the reinterment are also in the collections.
