Description

In his History Project, Inc. oral history, Bruce Collins told interviewer Tony Prohaska that he piloted the steamer Shinnecock out of Amagansett for Jack Edwards from 1954 until 1960. Bruce Collins explains the way purse boats worked with purse nets in other captions. In this caption he notes, " One of the old wooden bunker boats in the bakcground standing by until their set (the one closest to them) can be gotten in shape to be picked up by the big boat and the fish pumped aboard." No location is specified, but based on other photos in the series, it would make sense if this boat was operating somewhere near Promised Land in Amagansett.
