This image is part of a a series of photographs taken by Bruce Collins chronicling a hunting trip or trips based out of Tangier Island. In other images, Collins appears with Robert Crockett, a waterman (or bayman) from Tangier Island. Elsewhere in these photos, Bruce Collins explained that the bunker boats from Promised Land fish factory often went south for the winter for repairs near Tangier Island and Reedville, Virginia, or down to North Carolina and Florida to pursue other kinds of fish. In his History Project, Inc. oral history, Bruce Collins told interviewer Tony Prohaska that he piloted the steamer Shinnecock out of Amagansett for Jack Edwards from 1954 until 1960. That date is used to estimate the date for these images.
