Caption on back of photograph reads: Mary Eliza Butler was the daughter of Princess Olive Butler (a Montauk) and Captain Samuel Butler (a New England Indian). She had seven brothers and sisters, Susan, Ethyl, Carey, William, Charles, John Joe and George. The oval face of Mary Butler follows through to form the oval facial structure of the Butlers. Their bone structure is remarkably different than that of the other Montauk families such as the Fowlers and the Pharoahs, even though all are first cousins. The Butlers were all victims of Dropsy and Mary Butler died on Wednesday, January 25, 1911, aged 29 years and 10 months.
