The assessment was made "according to the directions of the statute entitled 'An Act for the Assessment and Collection of Taxes [of the State of New York]." Township assessment's were submitted to the Suffolk County N.Y. Board of Supervisors, with the following categories: names of possessors (including non-residents (identified as such, often with description of land or area), description of real estate, value of real estate, value of personal estate, and tax to be paid thereon.
