Description

Bruce Collins captioned this image, "The Drive Boat Man is rowing out to the center of the corks after the set is nearly finished to bring some corks aboard his boat to help with floation." The set has to do with how nets were arranged to capture bunker, and Edward Moore is elswhere identified as the Drive Boat Man. Preusambly, this activity took place in connection with the fishing operations of the bunker boat known as the Shinnecock. In his History Project, Inc. oral history, Bruce Collins told interviewer Tony Prohaska that he piloted the steamer Shinnecock out of Amagansett for Jack Edwards from 1954 until 1960. That date is used to estimate the date for these images.
