Mrs. Molly Corwithe was probably a member of the Corwith (also spelled Corwithe, Corwithee, etc.) Family from Southampton Town. The family were early settlers of the Bridgehampton and Water Mill area. This song has poetic rhyming and it expresses sentiments relating to the fall of Long Island following the Battle of Brookyln Heights (also known as the Battle of Long Island) to the British in 1776. The song was transcribed by a Calvin C. Halsey in 1838.
