Description

Fire Extinguisher, Steering Alarm, Running Lights, and Telephone to Engine Room on board a bunker boat. This equipment is located presumably in the Captain's and Pilot's Quarters or the wheel house. Bruce Collins described the steering alarm as "red light, loud horn, if steering fails." The "big box" was for the" running lights, etc." and the telephone was for "direct talk to Engine Room." Presumably this image was taken onboard the Shinnecock. In his History Project, Inc. oral history, Bruce Collins told interviewer Tony Prohaska that he piloted the steamer Shinnecock out of Amagansett for Jack Edwards from 1954 until 1960. That date is used to estimate the date for these images.
