This is a manuscript copy from the 1700s of a document originally issued December 09, 1686 by New York Colony Governor Thomas Dongan. Dongan's Patent, as the document was often called, created a Board of Trustees of the Freeholders and Commonalty and confirmed bounds of the township. This is an incomplete copy with the last 2 pages torn. It is not dated, but the paper and handwriting indicates it was copied in the 1700s. A penciled note on the manuscript reads: "copied - September 7, 1885." The original document is also in the collection, from 1686, along with copies from 1704, 1798, and 1841.
