This is part one of a two volume journal kept by Mary E. Satterly Rowland while she accompanied her husband on a voyage from New Orleans, Louisiana to Genoa, Italy on the brig Mary E. Rowland. The brig was presumably named for Mary or her daughter with the same name. Mary previously accompanied her husband on a voyage on the Thomas W. Rowland brig. The Rowlands resided in Setauket when not at sea. Mary brought her family with her on the voyage. She records
