This item is part of a collection of Gardiner Family materials purchased by the Long Island Collection. Alexander McLachlan, not to be confused with the poet of the same name, appears to be younger than his sister Julianna, who was born in 1799. McLachlan was probably deceased by 1844 due to the lack of correspondence at the time of Senator David Gardiner's death. However, no birth or death dates are known at this time.
