Description
A copy of the "The Duke's Laws", written in 1665, by the Duke of York (later James II) enumerating some of the changes to laws after the English took over New York. This copy supposedly came from the Roslyn area (Hempstead Town?) and is missing pages that were photocopied and inserted from the East Hampton copy by Morton Pennypacker. It's not clear if this was one of the original official copies or a contemporary copy. The item also has some scribbles and handwriting from members of the Townsend Family of Oyster Bay.
Pages 1-9 are photostat from the East Hampton copy, as are 81-84. Pages 85-91 are notes and inserts with the item.
