The upper section of the map includes views of Huntington, Smithtown, Islip, Brookhaven, Fire Island, and Oak Island. The lower section documents views of Brookhaven, Riverhead, Southampton, Southold, East Hampton, Shelter Island and Gardiner's Island. The map contains plans and business directories for Amagansett, Amityville, Aquebogue, Babylon, Bellport, Bridgehampton, Center Moriches, Cold Spring, Commack, Cutchogue, East Hampton, East Marion, East Moriches, Greenport, Miller's Place, New Suffolk, Northport, Orient, Patchogue, Penataquit, Port Jefferson, Riverhead, Sayville, Smithtown, Southport, Southampton, Southold, Stony Brook, and West Huntington. This map is one of few 19th century maps that document Suffolk county in detail, including names of property owners and illustrations of Elisha King's farm house in Good Ground, C.W. and J.T. Moore's summer residence in Aquebogue, Stephen Hayne's residence in Scuttle Hole, Wyandank House in Greenport, and the Riverhead courthouse. At some point in time, this map was cut into sections, but was once a linen wall map that measured 48 x 57 inches.
