A receipt from Henry Packer Dering to Benjamin Lord of Shelter Island. The receipt is for hospital pay given by Lord to Dering for the preceding year. Hospital pay was a part of merchant mariner's wages that was set aside to pay for medical care at government-run marine hospitals around the country. Benjamin Lord was a sailor aboard the Sloop Superior.
