Description

Using interviews in the LTV Archives and public domain footage of the storm, this 5 minute piece tells the story of how no one knew the storm was coming until it came ashore at 3 in the afternoon. The waves were up to 50 feet high and the hurricane moved at a ferocious pace cutting all forms of communication. Film footage of the storm and aftermath from a film made by the WPA in 1939 (Public Domain).
