Caption on reverse reads: Due to the shortage of men to work on farms during the First World War, women were encouraged to "do their bit" by acting as "Farmerettes," and help out with farm chores. This float shows Mrs. Harry Hamlin of Stony Hill Farm, on Old Town Lane, Amagansett, with her milk pail, Farmerettes, and cow. The sign on the float refers to a popular song of the day, which I recall went something like this: I want to go back, I want to go back, I want to go back on the farm, With a milk pail on my arm, I miss the rooster, That always useter, Wake me up at four a.m., I love your great big city, But I want to go back on the farm.
