Description
This photograph shows a right side view of a large audience at the Dogwood Hollow Theatre in 1956. The audience looks prepared to enjoy a performance from the Stony Brook Music Festival. Within the audience are black and white Americans seated together, rare for this time. It is possible Dogwood Hollow played a role in promoting integration among black and white musicians and audiences. This photograph has been used to document the appearance of Stony Brook locations in "The Negro Motorist Green Book", including the Three Village Inn. The photograph shows the size of Dogwood Hollow's large audience, having over 2000 seats.
