Walton Grant Parsons was the son of Joseph D. Parsons. There are other images of both father and son in this collection. Walton's appearance, attire, and the photo technology invovled in this image, which may be a tintype or other earlier photo, are used to estimate a date. Walton looks like he may still be a teenager here.
