Letter ("first opportunity" written on address line) describes in detail the dates, movements, and activities of British war ships off Montauk Point, including their capture of American sloops, a 74-gun ship flying French colors but undoubtedly British, their exploration of a boiling spring at Shagwonganock Reef, and their eventual removal to nearby Block Island [R.I.]; author indicates surety of the British plans to return to Montauk, and closes with note of the British not interfering with the local fishermen.
