Description
One of a series of seven watercolors featuring the Montauk Association houses. These homes were built on property owned by Arthur Benson for a group of wealthy industrialists Benson considered friends.
The watercolors were painted by Eloise Luquer, a grandniece of John Howard Payne who wrote "Home! Sweet Home!" Each house is labeled with the owner's name on the back. This house was built for Dr. Cornelius Agnew.
All of the Montauk Association houses are shingle style buildings designed by McKim, Mead, and White, and built in 1881, following the plans created by Frederick Law Olmstead.
