This map appeared on the inside of the front and back covers of Morton Pennypacker's 1939 book, "General Washington's Spies on Long Island and in New York." The map features part of the New York metropolitan area, focusing on New York City, the Connecticut coastline, and Long Island until Hog Neck on the North Fork.
Pennypacker's graphic used red arrows to indicate the movements of people connected to Benedict Arnold's treason and John Andre's death.
The blue arrows indicate the movements of people identified in the book as supporters of American independence, particularly people associated with the Culper Ring, including Benjamin Tallmadge, Robert Townsend (Culper Jr.), Abraham Woodhull (Culper Sr.), Austin Roe, and Sarah Townsend.
