Caption on back of photograph reads: Mrs. Camille Smith was one of ten children of Thomas H. Williams and Rose Kellis, the daughter of Charles Kellis of the Shinnecocks. Mr. Williams came from Washington, D.C., to teach in the Shinnecock school. It was during his teaching career that he met the lady who later became his wife. Camille was one of their ten children and she married Thomas Smith, also a member of the tribe, and they raised a family of children in a comfortable home that sits on the shores of Heady Creek. Of their nine children, seven still make their homes on the Shinnecock Reservation, and three of them have married members of the Shinnecock tribe. Two sons, Elmer and Charles have served as tribal trustees and at present (1969) Charles is one of the three tribal trustees. Mrs. Smith was a friendly and warm person with a lively sense of humor and her home was always bustling with activity.
