Caption on reverse reads: On August 28, 1914, this advertisement appeared in the East Hampton Star. A large tract of woodland on the South side of Three Mile Harbor road had been acquired, divided into small lots and widely advertised for sale. Since, there was no town planning board at the time, requiring developers of land to conform to rules regarding lot sizes, road construction, drainage, etc., it was a perfect example of bad planning. The development also called for the erection of a large hotel. Construction of a building was eventually started, though the plan differed from the one shown hereCopy by C. Frank Dayton.
