This image shows Dr. David Burnett Van Scoy (1800-1874) of Amagansett seated for a portrait. Van Scoy was a medical doctor, the postmaster of Amagansett, and also a Justice of the Peace. The photo was clearly taken later in Van Scoy's life and his lifespan and appearance, along with the advent of photo technology is used to estimate a date. This photograph was either taken or collected by Amagansett historian and librarian Carleton Kelsey.

This photograph is part of the collection of the Carleton Kelsey Collection of the Amagansett Historical Association. Kelsey was a local historian and librarian who collected photographs from others to add to the many photographs he took of the community himself.
