This photograph pre-dates September 1938, when the hurricane destroyed this steeple, but the image is undated. The photograph was found by Ella A. Bates and Sadie B. Patterson per the note on the reverse. The painters' attire is difficult to see, but it does feature full length paints and looser shirts without jackets, making it more likely they're working in the early 20th century rather than the 1860s or 1870s. The steeple's elaborate decorations from Minard LaFever are visible in this image, along with multiple clockfaces.
