Caption on back of photograph reads: "Princess Pocahontas Pharoah is the last living member of the Montauk tribe born on the old reservation at Montauk Point in 1879 just before it was sold to Arthur Benson of Brooklyn. She is the only living child of King David and Queen Maria Pharoah and is a direct descendant of the Sachem Wyandanch. The Pharoah family has always furnished the Sachems of the Montauk tribe. Her royal descent has been established by Morton Pennypacker, the late Suffolk County historian. It is in the Penny packer Collection of the East Hampton Free Library. This is how she appeared in 1940. Today (December 7, 1962) she is 83 and living in East Hampton on land that the Montauks received in exchange for Montauk."
