It is my belief that Mrs. Edna Walker Eleazar is without doubt a full blooded Indian. Her father was a Montauk and her mother a Shinnecock. There are no finer Indian physical types anywhere. I took this very interesting study of her on August 9, 1962, in front of the home of her friend Stella V. Arch, on the Shinnecock Reservation. She is 96 years old and her father was one of the Indians who perished in the wreck of the Circassion in December of 1876. Mrs. Eleazar married Charles Eleazar, also a Shinnecock, and she is still active in the affairs of the reservation. Although the Indian personality traits have all but disappeared among present day Shinnecocks (May 27, 1963), Edna Eleazar is one of the few survivors who retains these characteristics.
