Letter from William Eustis, American rebel surgeon in the Revolutionary War, to Andrew Craigie, first Apothecary General of the United States who served under General George Washington during the Revolutionary War, regarding facilitating Nathaniel Gardiner, surgeon of the First New Hampshire Regiment, in coming to Philadelphia for a particular [medical] lecture; [illegible, home near West Point, N.Y.], November 20, 1779. Letter relates not only the great sacrifices the senior Woodward made during the American Revolution, i.e. at the Battle of Monmouth, but also his important work before the war as a member of the New York [City] Committee of Safety; he goes on extensively about the senior Woodward's great financial suffering after the war, from his loans to the public and resulting business hardships.
