Contract for purchase of "black man Edward," by Abraham Franklin, of New York, N.Y., and his cousin Robert Townsend, of Oyster Bay, N.Y. Purchase was for emancipation of Edward. Next to seal and signature of Franklin is statement "our family is in good health and desire to be remembered to aunts and cousins," followed by instructions "Edward will give thee the money of when thou art satisfied, that his discharge is clear pay it_Amelia Loyd, his mistress."
