Letter from George House, written on board the revenue cutter Argus, docked in Sag Harbor, N.Y., [to Henry Packer Dering], concerning the conveying of cisterns to Montauk Point and Gull Island, removal of [whale] oil from Montauk Lighthouse to Great Gull Island [Lighthouse], etc.; Sag Harbor, N.Y., September 8, 1806. Letter acknowledges Dering's desire for House to visit the port of Sag Harbor, N.Y., for the purpose of conveying cisterns to Montauk [Point Lighthouse] and removal of [whale] oil from said lighthouse to one at Great Gull Island, N.Y.; relates his delay was due to his intention of taking Mr. Consider Sterry, of Norwich, Connecticut, editor of the True Republican, to Montauk [Point], to make lunar observations to ascertain lattitude and longitude there. Closes with small talk regarding Mrs. Dering's visit to New London, Connecticut, and mentions a Mr. Perkins of same place.
