Caption on back of photograph reads: Mrs. Cora Eleazar was one of the strong women members of the Shinnecock tribe. She was an unofficial social worker among her people and members of the tribe could always come to her for advice and aid. The Eleazar's were one of the families who sent several men to sea as whalers and they sailed to all ports of the world. This family name still survives at Shinnecock.
