Caption on back of photograph reads: This photo of Charles Somer Bunn, in his older age, shows him as he appeared when testifying for the Shinnecocks when part of their reservation was challenged as to title in 1955. In this photo he also bears a striking resemblance to the late Chief Eben Queppish, Wampanoag of Mashpee. His father, David W. Bunn, was one of those nine Shinnecock men who perished in the wreck of the Circassion off Mecox Bay in December of 1876. He was a graduate of New York State Normal School at New Paltz and his home is now occupied by one of his daughters and is one of the largest on the reservation. It was no uncommon sight even during his declining years to see Charles Bunn tramping along the edge of the bay that he loved. He was one of the finest hunters on Long Island.
