This painting by Sag Harbor artist Annie Cooper Boyd depicts the process of chasing the whale in a whale boat to try to harpoon it. A whale and the whaling ship and whale boat are both visible, along with the whale boat crew. Annie's father William Cooper built whale boats. The title was added by Boyd, although since the last whaling ship to leave Sag Harbor left in 1871, this title may reflect Annie's appreciation for romanticized history. A date for this painting is estimated based on Annie's lifespan.
