Caption on reverse reads: This stiring patriotic float was seen in the "Preparedness Parade" of July 4th, 1916. Two Boy Scouts standing at attention in front, behind them a resolute Miss Liberty with her staff and shield, beside an army tent and cannon balls. Three Civil War veterans and a Red Cross nurse sit at the rear under the sign, "Has the blood we shed in '61 turned to water in 1916." The sign at the side of the float refers to a statement made by President Wilson. In his futile attempt to keep us out of the war, he had said, "We are too proud to fight." Copy by C. Frank Dayton.
