Description
Caption on back of photograph reads: In her veins flows the blood of two tribes, the Shinnecocks of Long Island and the Wampanoags of Mashpee, in Cape Cod. Wendy Gardner is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gardner of the Shinnecock Reservation. She shows the strong Indian heritage that she inherits from both her parents. Her father Rodney, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gardner. Raymond Gardner is from the Wampanoag tribe of Mashpee, Massachusetts. He married the former Effie Harvey of the Shinnecocks. His mother was Dorcas Coombs Gardner, the sister of Wallace Coomes and the daughter of Dorias Coomes of the Wampanoag tribe of Mashpee, Cape Cod. The name Coombs itself, is derived from the Indian name Hiacoomes, who was a famous Sachem in the annals of Cape Cod. These are all forebears of Wendy Gardner on her fathers paternal side of the family. Her mother Effie Gardner, also comes from good Indian stock on the Shinnecock side. Mrs. Gardner herself was the daughter of Ernest Harvey and Lillian Harvey. Her great grandfather's photo appears in the handbook of the American Indian. He was John Henry Thompson an excellent type of American Indian. Wendy's mother, the former Doris King, also comes from good Shinnecock stock, as her mother is of the Davis family. Little Wendy is the first cousin of Chantel Fenn.
