Description

Caption on back of photograph reads: This is an extremely rare photo of two men representing past and present generations at the Shinnecock Reservation in 1966. Ethnologically, the photo has a unique value because it proves the fact that there are among the current generation of the Long Island Shinnecocks, some excellent types of American Indians, in spite of the ever increasing inter-marriage with the Negro race. Young man on the left is Harry Williams (Chief War Hawk), one of the current trustees of the reservation, and who is in charge of the Indian concessions at the annual Shinnecock Pow Wow. Pictured next to him is Albert Ashman (Sitting Bull) Shinnecock-Montauk.
